Who we are & who our Centre serves
Our mission, mandate & values

Windsor Regional Children's Centre is a children's mental health centre which works with parents and community partners in addressing the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of children and adolescents. The Centre offers a variety of assessment, treatment, and consultative services to children, adolescents, and their families to facilitate development within the family, school, and community. Services range from crisis stabilization offered through a hospital emergency room program, to services, which are customized for individuals with unique and serious needs. The Centre provides education and training about advances in working with children/youth and families to parents and other community service providers. The Centre provides mental health services to young people involved with the Youth Court or law enforcement agencies, and to children having or suspected of having a developmental disability or autism/pervasive developmental disorder.

The catchment area includes Essex, Kent, and Lambton counties. In the latter two counties, the Centre supports the local children's mental health centres and/or provides specific services as negotiated with the community.

While the Centre is multidisciplinary in nature, it is the developmental context of the child/youth's needs that determines the relevant multidisciplinary involvement, which will be brought to bear in attending to these needs. Service coordination and the team approach (either the Centre's own staff or as part of a community based team), which always includes the family, are the basis for all service delivery. Parents play a central role in decision-making about the intervention plan for their child/youth and family. Goals, with measurable, definable outcomes, are set for each family.

In order to ensure a continuum of needed child and adolescent services in the community, the Centre is committed to working with relevant community agencies in planning and coordinating services to meet the mental health needs of children and youth. The Centre is dedicated to finding ways of involving community supports so that the service system is built around the child/youth and family. The Centre strives to work toward an efficient and effective service system that is accessible, flexible, and responsive to needs, and reflects a range of service options including education, support, prevention, early intervention, respite, crisis response, and treatment. The Centre also endorses a service system that respects the rich diversity of those requesting service and that enhances the capacities of children/youth, families, and communities to respond to life stresses and related issues in a healthy, adaptive, and growthful manner.
